time, except otherwise required by law. Students shall present themselves for such tests as may

Registering for Kindergarten
Beginning
with the 2006-07 school year:
- Children who are five years of age on or before August 1 of the school year
will be placed in kindergarten.
- Children who are five years of age on or after August 2 and on or before December 31
of the school year will be placed in junior kindergarten.
Geographic Exceptions (GE)
Parents can apply to enroll their child in a school outside of the local school’s geographic area
by completing a Geographic Exception (GE) form.
GE forms can be picked up at any public school but must be submitted to the student's home school NO LATER
THAN MARCH 1 for the following school year.
While students qualifying under No Child Left Behind receive the highest priority, a school with more GE
applicants than space available creates its own secondary priorities and may even select enrollees through
a lottery. Contact your desired school for information about its process and priorities.
For more information go to http://doe.k12.hi.us/ge/.
After School Care (A+)
The DOE has contracted several service providers
with low cost after school care. All latchkey children are eligible for the program that provides homework
assistance, supervised play and a snack. Generally, after school care runs from 2:00 pm - 5:30 pm,
but check with your child's school.
